MIDTERM CONTEST RULES

The playing field is an oval approximately 32 inches by 52 inches. The background of the field is white, with a black line designating the boundary. There will be eight white soda cans placed randomly inside the oval. Cans are to be placed no closer than two inches apart.

The goal of the contest is to push as many cans as possible out of the oval in the least amount of time.  The time limit is five minutes.  The winner will be the robot that moves the most cans out of the field in five minutes or, if more than one robot moves all of the cans out of the field, the winner will be the one that did it in the shortest amount of time.

Robots may only be built using the materials supplied in a single COMP006 kit. That is, the original Mindstorms kit with the addition of a rotational sensor, and another motor, switch, and light sensor.

Robots will begin on one side of the field, as shown in the figure.

The maximum initial size of the robot will be 7” long by 7” wide by 6” high.

Good luck!
