I am from Salt Lake City, Utah. I received a B.S. in Computer
Science in 2000 from Brigham
Young University, and a M.S. in Computer Science from UNC Chapel Hill in
2002. I currently live in Sandy, Utah.
I am a big fan of Java, having used it for the past 6 years in the
industry, and some before that in school. I prefer working on
the back-end to a system, and enjoy working with databases and SQL.
I have been using Hibernate
for the
past few years, and have a lot of respect for it. It's
extremely powerful, and extremely easy to mess up.
I've recently started using the Spring
Framework, and haven't decided yet if it's the best
thing since sliced bread, or just a way to move messy code into messy
XML...
I'm a big fan of agile development, and working with a small team of
sharp people. It's amazing how much you can get done if you
don't dump too many people into the mix. As an example, check
out what we're doing at Footnote,
where I work. The site gets better all the time, and we roll
changes out every couple weeks. I really enjoy working in a
small company like Footnote.
I am gaining quite a bit of experience with MySQL. It has
recently become quite a fully-featured database. And I think its plugin
architecture places it in a great position to become the
best open source database around.
