Tutorial 1: Getting Started with Model Synthesis This tutorial will explain how to automatically generate your own cities and castles in a matter of minutes using model synthesis. Model synthesis is a tool for automatically generating large complicated 3D models. Model synthesis works by taking a simple 3D model that someone can easily create themselves and producing a similar, but much more complex 3D model that would be hard to someone to create by themselves. Technical details of how this is accomplished can be found here. - To begin, start the main application “modelSynthesis.exe”. - Next we select an example model. You can create your own example model as is explained in Tutorial #3, but to begin let’s use an existing input model. Under example model, click “Browse” and choose a model. The output model is the location where the new model will be saved. - Next we decide the size of the output model we want to generate. Large models take longer to generate, so you might want to start out small like 20 x 20 x 10. - To generate your new model, click “Synthesize”. - Advanced users: you can adjust other parameters such as the block size and the iterations. These are explained here. - To view this new model you will have to use a 3D modeling program such as 3D Studio or Blender. (You can download Blender for free.)
