My last wandering in the Himalayas had been two years ago. The last
couple of years were spent in what I thought was the most worthwhile
pursuit in life and mountains were forgotten. 2004 tested my own
limits, but as it drew to an end, it gave me an opportunity to be in
the Himalayas again. Within a few days of returning home in December, I
set out for Goecha La, a 5000 m pass in the Indian Himalayas in West
Sikkim, facing the South East face of Mt. Kanchenjuna (8586 m) with a
friend. We got as far as the region around Dzongri (~ 4300m), (the
meeting place of man and mountain god) . While Shivji blessed my
companions with his eternal prasad, we were all blessed with stable
weather and breathtaking views of the awe-inspiring mountains.
Here are the ones my camera captured, many more are in my head.
