COMP 410 On-line Class Information

Procedures for On-line Class

All instruction and evaluation in COMP 410 this semester will be delivered on-line. Here are the procedures we will be working with:

  1. Class meetings    ( click to join class )

Class will meet M and W, from 2:40 to 3:55 (Chapel Hill time). We will meet via Zoom. Classes will be recorded and the video will be linked into the class calendar so that students who have significant time difference can "attend" class at a later hour.

  2. LA Office hours    ( click to join LA office hours )

Office hours will be done via Zoom as well, but at a URL different from class. This is a Zoom meeting where you will be put first into a "waiting room" and when you are next up, an LA will move you into the conference. The help can be one on one, or (at the LAs discretion) several at once.

LA office day/time slots will be posted as soon as they meet and set a schedule. Please seek help on assignments early, as remote assistance will be more cumbersome and take more time than face-to-face meeting. Don't wait until the last minute to seek assistance if you need some.

  3. Dr. Stotts Office hours    ( click to join Dr. Stotts' office hours )

My office hours will be (for now) Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00. I am trying to work out Tuesday hours but will have to see how all the team meetings from other classes go in order to find a slot. Office hours will be done via Zoom as well, but at a URL different from class and different from LA office hours. This is a Zoom meeting where you will be put first into a "waiting room" and when you are next up, I will move you into the conference.

  4. Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere questions will be displayed in class, in Zoom, as I discuss them. To answer them, go to
    http://www.pollev.com/comp410
either on your laptop or on your phone. There is also a link to pollev.com on the tab menu at the top of the class webpage.

  5. Midterm, Fina Exams

It will be online, in Sakai. More instructions to follow for students in remote time zones, or needing ARS services.
