As of Monday March 23, all instruction and evaluation in COMP 523 will be delivered on-line. Here are the procedures we will be working with:
Class will still meet M and W, from 11:15 to 12:30 (Chapel Hill time). We will meet via Zoom. Classes will be recorded and the video will be linked into the class calendar so that students who have significant time difference can "attend" class at a later hour.
My office hours will be (for now) Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00. I am trying to work out Tuesday hours but will have to see how all the team meetings go to find a slot. Office hours will be done via Zoom as well, but at a URL different from class. This is a Zoom meeting where you will be put first into a "waiting room" and when you are next up, I will move you into the conference.
Please work out a Zoom schedule (or other remote tech) for your team members to coordinate and push your project development forward. We can help with this as you need... we will talk about it during your coach meetings.
Here is the basic information you received from Aaron earlier this week.
Starting on Monday 3/23, we will return to our normal schedule for weekly COMP 523 project meetings with the coach. However, there will be some changes, addressed following.
Since we can no longer meet in person, the meetings will be conducted over Zoom. When your normal weekly meeting time comes, please use that link to join the meeting.
Official weekly coach meeting schedule.
For your reference and convenience. Keep in mind that all times listed are in the EDT time zone!
Attendance is still required
Even though the meetings are now virtual, we will continue to take attendance.
Please try to come to all of your team meetings for the rest of the semester! Email me and
cc Dr. Stotts and your teammates if you believe you will have trouble attending
the team meetings, so we can work out something together.
When you join the Zoom meeting, please try to be in a place where you can turn on both audio and video. Since there are only six people in the meeting (four teammates plus me and Dr. Stotts), I don't think it'll be a problem for us all to have video feeds. And I think it is important that we try to keep the meetings as personal as possible.
Starting on Monday 2/23, I'm going to require YOU to kick off our weekly meeting with a 5-10 minute discussion of your current project progress. At every meeting, you must give a demo showing the portion of the app you developed that week. This means you must have (at least) one teammate be ready to share their screen during the meeting in order to show the demo.
Additionally, before our weekly meeting starts, you should add two bullet-point lists to your COMP 523 website. One should be a recap of the to-do items we talked about during the last meeting; the other should list the to-dos you expect to tackle for the upcoming week. Whoever is sharing their screen should be prepared to pull up these lists from your COMP 523 website, and the entire group should be ready to explain both lists.
That's all for now! Thanks for your time and effort during this busy, unpredictable period! As always, please stotts@cs.unc.edu or onsmith@cs.unc.edu if you have any concerns or questions.
