| Finn takes a well deserved rest after a big first day |
On Monday, August 24, 1998, at 7:12 pm, Katie and I were blest with the arrival of our first child, John Finnegan Weber VI (aka "Finn"). Finn was 20 1/2 inches long, weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and had blond hair and blue eyes.
Finn's due date was August 22nd, and Katie's sister and brother-in-law, Steffie and Bob MacDonald, were also expecting a child, but their due date was two weeks later. Everything changed, however, when Steffie called on that Monday morning to announce that she was heading to the hospital. After wishing her the best of luck, Katie hung up the phone and felt her first contractions. Not long after that, we were off to the doctor's and then the hospital.
Bob and Steffie had a darling baby girl, Carolyn Ann MacDonald, at around 3 pm, and our little Finn arrived soon thereafter. As if there weren't enough things going on that day, it was also Bob's birthday!
On the Weber side of the family, this is our first grandchild, while on the Maggs side, these two cuties join Master Douglas Maggs (whose pictures we will have to get on the web immediately!).
Several people have asked about the origin of Finn's name. Many of you may not know that my birth name is John (Hans) Weber V, where the parentheses indicate that my parents intended to use Hans as my first name. My mom's family is German, and one of the German forms of John is Hans.
As for "Finnegan," well, the name means "fair-haired and fair-skinned" and is of Irish-Gaelic origin. Katie and I both have some Irish in our backgrounds, and when pink, little Finn arrived with wisps of blond hair we knew we had the right name. His locks have since acquired a reddish tinge which has peaked mom's interest, but we'll see what happens ...
