Collected Writings
of
John B. Smith
(1966 - present)

Welcome

Available here are the published books, articles, chapters, and a few technical reports that I wrote over a 40-year period.  Also included are selected online documents, including research dealing with automatic generation of enterprise systems as well as a sample of online lessons concerning Web-based systems. During that time, I worked as a humanities professor, computer scientist, computer center staff member, and consultant. Since retiring in 2011, I have continued to write, program, and collect data pertaining to a farm in Pennsylvania - which I shares with my wife, Catherine - in an on-going effort to develop a sense of place and for enjoyment.

Access

Items are available though several paths, shown below.  Most are in the form of scanned PDF files, usually contained within individual directories. For ease of access, each file is normally a single paper or chapter for longer works, rather than aggregating mulltiple items for books into a single file.  Some images are duplicated as JPG or TIFF files, also available within directories. All may be downloaded without charge for non-commercial purposes.  If referenced or reused, please acknowledge the source.

Chronological Bibliography

Items are shown by publication type (eg., book, article, technical report) and by date within type. All may be downloaded and/or viewed by selecting a link within each listing.

Period and Theme Catalog

Items are grouped, first, by the overall period and location in which the work was done, and, second, by theme or subject matter.  Within theme, they are usually listed chronologically, except in a few cases where items are shifted to show logical progression and/or to reflect date written vs. date published. All may be downloaded and/or viewed by selecting a link within each listing.

Curriculum Vitae

The cv includes professional activities not reflected in publications or publications not included in either of the listings noted above.  These include research proposals, technical reports, service activities, and consulting.  Not shown in the cv but a substantial activity, especially from 2000 to 2007, was forensic consulting. This work concerned software patents dealing with Web-based systems.
