Approximations to GPS

• Among packets that are waiting to be served at the current time, we would like to serve in GPS-order

• Consider all such packets that are at the heads of their queues

• We estimate GPS-completion time of a packet by

  • length of packet ? (normalized) weight
  • [normalized weight: ?i / (?all k ?k ) --- we usually assume that weights are normalized: i.e., (?all k ?k ) =1 ]

• One attempt at serving pkts in GPS-order: Virtual clock
