Service curves

• Concave and convex service curves:

  • concave (like our example) -- lower delays
    • “real-time” connections
  • convex -- higher delays, but higher bandwidth
    • e.g., file transfer

• To be able to satisfy a family of service curves, necessary that for all t ? 0, ?all connections i Si(t) ? S(t), where S(t) denotes the amount of service the server can provide over an interval of length t
