Bansal and Porter join UNC CS
The award-winning faculty of the UNC Department of Computer Science is growing by two. The department has announced the hiring of its two newest faculty members, Mohit Bansal and Don Porter, who will begin this fall.
UNC CS recognized for innovation at IEEE VR
A paper authored by members of the 3D Telepresence group earned Best Paper, a paper from the GAMMA group earned Best Paper Honorable Mention and GAMMA co-leader Ming Lin delivered an opening keynote.

Nirjon named 2016-2017 NCDS Data Fellow
Assistant professor Shahriar Nirjon was one of three researchers selected by the National Consortium for Data Science (NCDS) for a one-year fellowship beginning July 1.

Three UNC undergraduate computer science students, Dayton Ellwanger, Forrest Li and David Spencer, represented UNC-Chapel Hill in the World Finals of the ACM ICPC this May.
CV2R prepares for annual retreat
Launched in the fall of 2015, the Consortium for Vision and Virtual Reality (CV2R) brings government and industry to partner with UNC in advancing research and technologies. The 2016 Retreat will be held in September at the Rizzo Center in Chapel Hill.

Holmes earns Google Lime Scholarship
Tia Holmes, a first-year computer science major with cerebral palsy, received a $10,000 grant from Google and Lime Connect for the 2016-2017 academic year.
