Digital Light

Future Plans

As mentioned in the Background Information section, there are several different research areas in which digital light technology is or could be applied.

  • Tele-Immersion
  • Imperceptible Structured Light
  • Wide Area Tracking
  • Information Transmission
In order to apply the technology to these areas in a safe and robust manner, studies must be conducted using the digital light technology and human subjects.  It is imperative that digital light be applied in a manner which is safe to human beings to avoid problems linked to flashing lights such as epilipsy.  Once data which describes the safe regions in which to operate digital light technology is accumulated, research in the areas listed above can proceed.  The data needed to determine these safe operational regions should at least include the following variables:
  • Age
  • Sex
  • Light Pulse Length
  • Light Shape
  • Light Frequency
  • Light Amplitude
  • Light Rise/Fall times
  • Light Pulse Regularity
  • Light Color
  • Static Scene Bounds vs. Moving Scene Bounds
Finding the bounds of each of these variable with respect to the others, should provide a bounding box for those who wish to utilize digital light in their own research areas.
